One man's trash is another man's treasure. We all have that one thing that's important to us; that one tiny, seemingly inconsequential thing that's somehow special. The Blue Beanie is grand adventure in a lilliputian package about just such an item, and one little hero's quest to bring it safely home.

Very nice! Would like to see more of this type of game.

Oh my, that was so cute I think I may have ruptured something. So well put together, easy enough gameplay, but still very clever! Had me smiling and laughing in a few places too. What a joy to play, I hope we can see more of this from Daphne :)

Reply

That was wonderful! Very Samoroft, but much cuter. Good to see some Aussie gaming-talent on JIG.
Congratulations Daphne!

This is gorgeous - the type of game play I like. Definitely support fellow Aussie.

Very cute game. I enjoy it just because it's story isn't that complicated and it's the game which can be played within all age ranges. Plus the animations, sfx and bgm are neatly done. Good game.

This is cute overload. I love this game.

that is the cutest game i ever have seen

Can I get some help with:

the bower stage? I've found the flower, the paperclip, the clothespin and the rubber band, but I seem to need a fifth blue item to continue.

Reply

I haven't played online games in a long time. I happened upon a link to this game today. I almost cried this game was so beautiful. The music and the visuals create the perfect atmosphere for the story. Simple is the way games should be. I hope to see more for Daphne Lim.

Reply

It borrows so heavily from Jakub Dvorsky (who created Samorost) that he should appear in the credits. LOL. But charming nonetheless. Thanks for featuring it.

Reply

That was so good. loved it .

Reply

Solid work, but quite seriously; if it's going to be that 'inspired' by Jakubs work it should - at the very least - give a tip of the hat.

At any rate: a fun little experience.

Gorgeous game, felt just a notch short though. But we can't have it all so it was just nice as it was.

Reply

Eli, Bad Dog:

I just want to mention that this game wasn't intended for wide release. It's a personal project that we found and thought you guys would enjoy.

The author is a huge fan of Amanita Design, and she was very respectful of Jakub when I asked her about it.

Yukito:

The last item is the button. You'll have to be quick to nab it: the spider will briefly dart out of the log holding it.

Ryusui, thanks a bunch.

Cute. I hadn't played 'Samorost' before, so this one reminded *me* of 'Wogger'. If you liked this one, check out Wogger.

"Click tunnel" - what tunnel?

Reply

After a lot of clicking, I found the tunnel. Very cute game!

Reply

Very, very cute, and very, very well done.

If making someone smile could earn a grade, Daphne gets an A from me.

I found it to be a very warm and wonderful tribute to Samorost, and hope she writes more games like this soon. I love this type of little game -- they are visually gorgeous, and I like that they're not taxing -- they're just a very pleasant way to while a way a little time.

That... was the BEST (really, Im not really a fan of point-and-click) one I've played. I could finish it by myself, the graphics and sounds is cool and great storyline.

Bravo! Well done. Lovely!

I think this game is beautifully crafted and it is so cute.
I love the idea of the little fluffy white character, and i did enjoy this game alot :)
This is amazing. I hope there will be a second one :D
xx

Reply

Definitely like Samorost, but I like it. Quite enjoyable to play.

Reply

Very nice game but I didn't find it that fun. Something happened at the end and I was unable to finish it. I think that these point and click games are all too alike, this one seemed like any other one I have ever seen.

Reply

Beautiful graphics, well made, but very, very limited gameplay. Also the game is so easy you don't spend enough time in each level to really get into the atmosphere. Cute but not so much fun.

Reply

I can't find anything blue on the last level. I've already put the wood on the mud. Am I missing something?

Reply

Nevermind, got it.

Good review, Dora. Had it not been for the first two paragraphs of this review, I would have missed out on this game as I am in the probable minority of those not in love with Samorost. It's a good thing too because I was this close to missing out on an adorable game.

Just simple enough puzzles that no walkthrough was needed. What a sweet little game!

What a gorgeous game. Definitely up there with Samorost. The animation is superb. Also, for some reason, I love the main character's walking sound effect. Actually, I love everything about the main character. He looks squishy.

It was super easy, but still so wonderful. :)

Reply

That was short, but easy, fun, and very, very cute. Required some pixel-hunting though. Not bad: B+

Yah, the influence of the Aminata Design/Samorost style is delightfully noticeable, I started smiling from the moment I saw the artwork.

that was very fun and cute!!!!

Reply

I can't find the

blue paperclip

can anyone help me? Please!

Reply

oh, nevermind. if anyone else is having the same problem:

the walktrhough refers to the next level.

you have to click the wood on the mud twice

Reply

The walkthrough is missing a step.

In the second to last stage, you have to click on the spiderweb to get the wood panel with the leaf to drop down

Reply

I would very much like to see a thank you to Amanita design and the folks who did Samorost at the end just in case somebody thought that the original idea and aesthetic was entirely Daphne Lim's.

I can't really see what stopped her doing that in the first place as it's a very very beautiful and charming game and it wouldn't have hurt.

Reply

Well, my face is red.

I can't seem to get off the ground. I'm having trouble with the worm/bird thing, right in the beginning.

It's driving me crazy that there are so few games like this one! I've played Samorost 1,2; Haluz 1,2; and all the random in betweens that are posted on JIG. I wish, wish, wish this style of game was more prevalent as my thirst for it is far from quenched.

I find myself returning to this game time after time, I think it's the combination of an almost-fairytale soundtrack and the whimsical story that makes this one of my favourites.

Reply

It was really enjoyable and very cute. :)

Aww! That was so cute... yes, no doubts about the Samorost influence but less surreal. All in all, very enjoyable and fun

Reply

This was fantastic! From the cute little sounds when walking to nice colours, this game caught my attention. :)

Reply

This game was fun, but really easy. The graphics were superb, and the sound effects really helped the whole game together. Like everyone else said, it was extremely easy so you didnt really spend time on each level, you just played the game right through as if you were watching a movie.

Reply

I thought that this game was pretty simple and straightforward. It didn't really have that much of difficulty to it. I did have to use the walk through guide though because there was just so many things to click on that I didn't know when or where or how or in what order I had to do things to move forward in the game. It was a slightly entertaining game but it was just too simple and straightforward for my liking.

I liked this game. I thought it was easy and simple. I liked the animation of the characters and the realness of the background. it wasn't time consuming which is good in my opinion.

Reply

At the beginning this game seemed like it would be easy to beat. However throughout I noticed it got harder and I am glad that the game had walktrhoughs to help me complete the game. The walkthroughs are very helpful!

Reply

Gorgeous walkthrough!! This game is super adorable! And not only do I love the little faces the little guy makes, but the game was really simple because of the walkthrough! Thanks :)

D'awwww! I think this is my favorite short point-and-click game ever! (And I've played a lot, mostly by Fast Games/GamyStar/BeGamer)

Reply

The game was very simple. It didn't contain any textboxes, allows you to click around to get an idea of what you're supposed to do.

Reply

Mostly cute. The one thing that killed it for me was

getting the woodpecker to eat the worm, after the player character is seen giving a friendly wave to the other identical worms. At that point, he completely stopped being sympathetic at all for me. In an otherwise nonviolent game, that destroyed the feeling I was getting of him as a peaceful friend of the other woodland inhabitants. The hypocrisy of greeting that same kind of creature as, seemingly, a person, then turning around and deliberately getting one killed for a hat, just compounded my distaste.

Still, 3/5 stars for effort.
